A beautiful melody (and lovely accompaniment ) to help develop a singing tone and with the potential to introduce speed changes (ritenuto) and a wide dynamic range. Requires some use of ‘low’ 2nd finger. Would suit a pupil who is developing fast musically. Also published by Faber in First Repertoire for Violin.
This Fantasia provides opportunities to learn about accidentals and the swift movement of the same finger. G major arpeggios and dominant 7ths feature in this piece.
This beautiful melody in D minor is a favourite with both students and parents. It is evocative of French café music and can be played in first or half position. There are a few simple slurs.
This character piece has contrasts G minor and G major with lyrical tunes developing a general sense of fluency. There are long slurs with plenty going on within them. Good for developing subdivision in 6/8 time.
This dance is really full of energy, in 3/8, with lots of ringing chords. The C minor middle section is contrasting and there is lots of useful 5th position work within a lovely tune. A violin arrangement by Mathieu Crickboom is included in this publication.
