Skye Boat Song

A useful piece to introduce dotted rhythms in 6/8 time. There are some slurred string crossings.

Silent Night

This and other carol arrangements in Cellos for Christmas are very enjoyable near Christmas. Good for reading and general enjoyment. The part includes words and guitar symbols.

Reel

A good piece for string crossing. It can be played getting faster at the start of each new section.

All the pieces in Technitunes were written with multi-level and multi-instrument group teaching in mind. For violin, viola and cello the top part is all in first position. On the double bass, shifting is required and brings the top part to Grade 3 level. The lower part is in first position for all instruments, though violins will need a high 3rd finger and cellos will need a forward extension.

German Dance

German Dance provides an accessible introduction to double stops and opportunities to produce a good spiccato bow stroke. For all instruments, except double bass, both parts are all in first position. For the double bass, the top part has a range of shifts to 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions while the lower part remains in 1st position.

Duets for Two Violoncellos Op.52 No.2 and No.3

First published in 1847 as part of a cello method, these duets are great fun to play and very idiomatic for the cello. Each duet is in three movements and Op.52 No.3 starts with a set of variations. There are many contrasting bowing techniques contained in each piece.
