This is a wonderful arrangement of the slow movement of Dvorak’s Symphony No.9 ‘From the New World’. The parts are equally challenging and the arrangement is beautifully crafted.
Part pizzicato and part bowed students will love playing this trio. The rhythmic complexity is equal between the parts while the top part is slightly more adventurous going up to Eb. The other two parts are mostly 1st and half positions with some notes in 3rd position.
In this quartet for 4 double basses, basses 1 and 2 use simple 4th position, all other notes are in 1st position.
The tune is shared between basses 1, 2 and 3.
With some rhythmic independence there are frequent gathering points of rhythmic unison.
Bass 4 is optional.
