A lively piece requiring an energetically rhythmic mix of crotchet and quaver patterns. It has a contrasting more legato section with some slurs
Lovely song-like piece with gentle shifts into 4th position and using the A harmonic. Good for bow distribution and lyrical phrasing. Uses all four strings of the cello.
A very well known Bach Minuet well arranged for viola and excellent for developing string crossing, bow division and articulation as well as the elements of a Minuet style. Contains some optional 3rd position.
This Suite is in three short movements. The first has a slow introduction followed by a melody with pizzicato accompaniment. The second movement also has a slow introduction but this time to a rhythmic motif passing between the instruments. The last movement is slow and tranquil.
The parts are equal rhythmically while the range of notes is higher in the first two parts where there is some use of tenor clef.
A useful introduction to 12-4 finger pattern, this popular piece also features different bow lengths and dynamics.
