Great for learning to maintain pulse, keeping going and for listening. Both 1st (0 1 23) and 2nd (0 12 3) finger patterns are used.
These duos were originally published for two violins but have been arranged for two violas. All twelve of the duos help develop a sense of structure and phrasing in pieces from the Classical period. They help develop slurs and staccato patterns typical of that time. Some duos require third positions while others are slightly easier and suitable for grade 3 players.

Great fun duets with rhythmic demands and a good feel for virtuosic playing. Melodies include Auld Lang Syne, Morrison’s Jig plus many more traditional and original compositions by Igudesman. Cross-rhythms, accents, grace notes and syncopations abound. The book includes some hints so “one can sound a little more authentic and less ‘classical’“
Each duet is a neo-classical miniature pastiche. A Praludium (3 mins), Gavotte (2 mins) and a Waltz (2-3 mins). The violins play in close harmony. The Praludium is very lyrical while the dance movements have a somewhat ‘Romantic’ lilt.
